Barack Obama, the UN, and the Klu Klux Klan

Let's start with the facts:

In what has to be one of the most weak-kneed foreign-policy decisions by the new administration (and the competition is pretty intense), the Obama administration has just announced that it will seek a seat on the widely discredited U.N. Human Rights Council (HRC), which was rightly boycotted by President Bush as an anti-American circus. The Council, which devotes much of its time to persecuting Israel, is the successor to the disastrous Commission on Human Rights, so awful that even Kofi Annan disowned it.

The HRC is frankly a basket case, even by the staggeringly low bar set by the U.N....No doubt tyrants across the world are salivating at the prospect of having the United States raked over the coals in Geneva.
It is hard to fathom the reasoning behind the Obama administration’s decision to join the Council and have the United States humiliated on the world stage.

Now, the State Department claims "The decision is in keeping with the Obama Administration's ‘new era of engagement’", and on that claim they are likely correct. But can Barack Obama find a bar that is set too low, any group so foul and repulsive, that he would never consider joining it in the hopes of "engagement"?"

Let's put it more bluntly. If Barack Obama was asked by a group of barely-able-to-conceal-their-smirk Klansmen to join their orgainzation, would he do it in the cause of "reaching out"?

Strangely, I cannot answer that question. Although if he did join the Klan, I can only imagine what horrible torments they would visit upon Mr. Obama, both physical and psychological. But would he take it, or quit and admit there was no rapport to be reached with these types?

Quitting would admit error, defeat, and a flaw in ideology. So no, I cannot answer that question either.

The bottom line - this is what we can expect by joining the reviled UN Human Rights Council. A beatdown on a daily basis by some of the most immoral nations existing on the face of the earth, who will demand reparations, retreat, and servitude as the price of their favor.

So will Obama allow the US to take its beating and dance for the devil's pleasure, or will he quit and admit there is no rapport to be reached with these types?

Again, although it appears to be a no-brainer - based on what I have seen so far of Barack Obama, I cannot answer that question.

And that's scary.
