Gulf Coast Oil Spill: An Obama-Directed Conspiracy?

I'm not much for conspiracy theories, but....OK, well, that's a lie. I love them. I don't obsess over them, but I like putting them out there just to see how it plays.

And the recent oil spill off the Gulf Coast has so many implications - political, economic, and yeah, environmental - that one has to wonder if the hand of a man who is so much smarter than the rest of us is behind it, manipulating us in order to achieve the result he wanted in the first place.

First, Jim Geraghty:

President Obama announces a change in national policy on offshore drilling, and 20 days later a platform explodes, creating an environmental disaster that, we’re told, may be worse than the Exxon Valdez. That’s timing so perfect it’s usually associated with Abbott and Costello. There are a lot of folks who passionately opposed the possibility of expanded offshore drilling and who would have the motive to help “enable” an accident that discredited the policy.

And it appears as if the "maybe, possibly, someday we might think about drilling" policy has already been tossed under the bus:

There will be no new domestic offshore oil drilling pending a review of the rig disaster and massive oil spill along the Gulf Coast, the White House said Friday morning. Speaking on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” senior adviser David Axelrod said “no additional [offshore] drilling has been authorized, and none will until we find out what happened and whether there was something unique and preventable here. … No domestic drilling in new areas is going to go forward until there is an adequate review of what’s happened here and of what is being proposed elsewhere.”

The administration recently announced that it would open new coastal areas to oil exploration, including regions off Virginia’s coast and in the Gulf of Mexico, ending a long moratorium on new drilling.

So much for Obama reaching out to the "drill, baby, drill" crowd. Jennifer Rubin knows where this is heading:

So now even the fig leaf of bipartisanship is gone. And that “review,” one can bet, will be just as slow as the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell review...

So when gasoline prices rise to $8- a gallon, "fueled" by shortages and cap & trade levies, a serious-looking Barack Obama can claimed he was open to the whole "drilling" idea, but the Great Gulf Spill of 2010 proves that oil is a thing of the past, and that we must spend trillions in subsidies for "green" energy, such as solar panels, windmills, and magic carpets.

Your SUV, unfortunately, is a menace to the well being of the People's States of America. So kiss it goodbye, and pack your family into a subsidized Government Motors-brand of subcompact "smart"cars! They may not run well, and they may be deathtraps, but really - isn't your death the ultimate reduction of your carbon footprint? What could be more loyal, more patriotic...?

Finally, there is this odd CBS report:

Mr. Obama said SWAT teams were being dispatched to the Gulf to investigate oil rigs and said his administration is now working to determine the cause of the disaster.

SWAT teams?? I wonder....

Update: Mark Levin wonders Why did it take President Obama 8 days to do anything regarding the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico?”

Well, you need to create a crisis, before you can declare that "you can't waste a crisis..."

UPDATE II: Rush Limbaugh has a theory:

But this bill, the cap-and-trade bill, was strongly criticized by hardcore environmentalist wackos because it supposedly allowed more offshore drilling and nuclear plants, nuclear plant investment. So, since they're sending SWAT teams down there, folks, since they're sending SWAT teams to inspect the other rigs, what better way to head off more oil drilling, nuclear plants, than by blowing up a rig?

There's a flaw in Limbaugh's thinking process here, and that's assuming liberal activists are smart enough to...think. Remember, these are the same people who are fighting Arizona's tough new immigration laws by boycotting Arizona Iced Tea, proudly made in...Brooklyn.

This kind of plot takes government smarts to pull off. Admittedly, that's not a lot of brainpower either...

(More on this vile conspiracy here, here, here, over here, and here, and most recently here, you should definitely read this, and this is somewhat related as well...)

I'm not sure that I'm ready to jump off the deep end just yet, but you have to admit that the timing is incredible. One thing is for sure... there are only two possibilities: 1) it was an accident, or 2) it was deliberate. In either case, Obama gets what he wanted all along.

Exactly. And that just seems a little too convenient for me.

It's also odd that there was a coal mine disaster this month, too, when there hasn't been one in a very long time, and then another accident this week. Didn't Obama say he was going to "bankrupt" the coal industry? The timing of certain things is certainly pertinent to his agenda.

Ok guys,

I'm a liberal, probably the most liberal of my friends. Also, I really like Obama and feel like I "got my country back" when he was elected. I have to tell you, I called this reaction before Limbaugh or anyone mentioned it publicly.

I thought to myself, if I were a hard core conservative with an inclination towards conspiracy theories, this would be way too much of a coincidence - the coal mine explosion (I live in WV) and the oil rig disaster......Have you read "State of Fear" by Michael Crichton (honestly one of my favorite authors)? If you need something to fuel your paranoia, it would be great for all of you and your conservative friends to read.

But honestly, does this really need to be a vast left wing conspiracy? I mean, as Stephen Colbert has said, "Reality has a well known liberal bias". I mean come on, fossil fuels ARE dirty, they ARE dangerous to extract, and they WILL be gone well before the end of the human race (hopefully, unless the world ends in 2012 or we have some catastrophic disaster - nuclear proliferation anyone?)

Got any long term solutions for electricity, environment, national security, etc. that aren't second guessed by who's pockets they may be padding? I don't know about you, but I care a whole lot more about my family, friends, and our ability to enjoy freedom and nature in our home state of WV than I do about Al Gore, British Petroleum, or Haliburton. And I don't give a damn about MSNBC or Fox News.

I would love to have some honest conservatives comment back with their thoughts.

Dear Jim,
It’s not paranoia if somebody is really out to get you, which is true of much of Obama’s agenda. (More about that later.)

I doubt the oil disaster was intentional, and even if it were, I seriously doubt that a sitting president would be involved. This post, in my opinion, was more an exercise in humor and political brain-teasing, than being seriously suggestive. If anything, the comments were just emphasizing the coincidental timing and how this potentially devastating accident actually works in Obama’s favor, from the perspective of his core agenda.

If you would like to have a debate on energy and its future, then I invite you to by blog. But in this case, the poster is not taking a position on that (at least not in this article). So, spend a few minutes to consider the outrageous possibly of a conspiracy, then toss it out like any sound reasonable person would. Which is much more than I can say about the 911 truthers who have resigned to the idiotic idea that Bush could have engineered the whole disaster, rigged the WTC for demolition, sent a missile into the Pentagon, fooled people into thinking they saw real planes fly into the building, etc, etc, etc. Pure stupidity, right?

You said that after voting for Obama, you felt that you got your country back. Back from what? And more importantly, do you still feel that way? This country is much less yours than it was 15 months ago.

My fiance and I were talking about this last night. We thought it was a little too conicidental that disasters seem to be happening with more frequency since Obama became president LESS THAN TWO YEARS AGO:

* Obama wants universal healthcare--we got H1N1 shortly after his election (and it didn't work, but created the atmosphere of fear)

* The government took over GM--now Toyota (a competitor) is having major problems.

* Obama talks about alternative sources of energies--we get a coal mining accident and a devastating oil spill (to fuel the mindset of 'fossil fuels are bad for us')

* Obama talks about fighting terrorism--but then we have an attempted car bombing in Times Square with intricate planning and devices, but the wrong grade of fertilizer (wouldn't be good to blow up people who could end up supporting you if you 'save' them)

Now, I know I sound like a conspiracy theorist, but I'm not; I am just making observations and playing devil's advocate. Nothing would boost Obama's poll ratings (which are plummetting) than to be able to 'save' people from a disaster.

Just something to think about. :-)

OMGOSH... I thought I was the only one thinking all of these same things. ALL OF THEM!! To include the Toyota problems, Gulf explosion... all of it. I have been so surprised to not see any media opinions on these topics. WHY??

Thank you for stating these thoughts... How can the media NOT connect the dots??

Jackie said...

Because the media is biased against logic and reasoning--and they're in denial. Remember, they're the ones who fawned over Obama like he was the coming Messiah.

Now. they're seeing what a joke he really is, but they're trying to save face, so they continue to praise his efforts--no matter what the cost.

If this was a Conservative president, I can guarantee that the media would have no problem connecting the dots onto this pattern. I predict two things:

* They will find some way to blame Bush for all of this.

* Obama will come out at some point and say 'I wanted to drill offshore, but look at what happened in the Gulf...' and will start working on more alternative energy plans.

Every communist or socialist movement has occurred during times of hardship and fear. Governments only have power because we the people give them the power. We give them the power because we seek a strong entity to bring stability to society.

So its not hard to look at these events and see something that supports a power hungry agenda.

When I first heard about the Deepwater Oil Rig explosion the first person
I thought of was George Soros. He
mentored Obama, is onboard for the NWO and always profits from a disaster or crisis
