Libertarianism, New York Style: Meet "Topless Bowery Woman" !

Libertarianism, as a political philosophy, does has its benefits:

Topless woman walks through the Bowery

A blond mystery woman strolled the Bowery and other Manhattan streets free of the burden of bra or shirt, taking advantage of New York's leniency toward such exposure.

The woman wore nothing more than a modest, knee-length black skirt, flip flops, sunglasses and a brown purse Monday while ogling pedestrians snapped pictures.

...She was stopped by police, but cops said she wasn't issued a summons because it is not illegal for a woman to expose her chest. The woman was later spotted near Central Park.

More:

Speaking to The Village Voice, NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Public Information Paul Browne said: 'The state's highest court established long ago that women have the same right as men to appear topless in public.

'Absent a link to some commercial enterprise or promotion, the woman's lack of certain attire in this instance does not appear to be a police matter.'

God bless the NYPD (pound for pound, the best police force in the world, hands down).  And a warning to Republicans:  If you guys can't get your sh*t together, there is another political movement out there, gaining steam, that offers freedom, low taxation, deficit reduction, and topless chicks...

I thought you might be interested to know that there's more news to report in the "topless in public" realm. In celebration of the top-free gender equality in New York State that this woman was exercising, I've been photographing women topless in public all over the state (not just NYC) for the last few years for a series I call "Topless New York." I'm ready to launch with a small exhibit late this summer, then hopefully a calendar, a book, and a website where people can see phtoos and order prints from the series. At the moment I'm raising money to help cover the startup costs of the exhibit (prints and frames are pricey!), and here's a link to the campaign, which also includes some more details about the project itself:

I'd be happy to talk more with you about the series if you're interested - and in the meantime, please feel free to repost that link on your website, on Facebook, etc. and spread it around among other people you feel will support the cause. Thanks!
